Many of us take for granted the fact that when we turn our faucets on, clean and safe drinking water comes out. We don't worry about where it comes from unless theres a problem with the taste, odor or appearence. Protecting drinking water starts at the source.

  • One percent of the water on earth is available for use by humans.
  • All the water on the planet now is all the water we've ever had and is all the water we'll ever have. 
  • Every day in the United States we drink about 110 million gallons of water.
  • Approximately 75% of the human body is made up of water.
  • The average American uses 140 - 170 gallons of water a day.
  • A leaky faucet can waste 100 gallons of water a day.

 

Tips for reducing water usage:

 

  • Take short showers instead of baths and check your local hardware store for a water conserving showerhead.
  • Turn the faucet off while you brush your teeth.
  • Run your dishwaer and washing machine only when they're full.
  • Taking your care to a self-serve carwash will save more water, but when washing your car at home use soap and water from a bucket and a hose with a shut-off nozzel for rinsing.
  • Installing a rain barrel will provide another water source for outdoor uses like lawn care and washing your car.
